Venus paired with the moon

Did anyone see Venus last night?

It looked light a big bright star next to the moon. I had no idea Venus was going to be seen last night but I got a call from my mom who told me to go outside and look at the really bright star next to the moon. She said she was taking a walk and the bright light didn’t move so it had to be a star but my dad didn’t believe her because it was too bright. So she called me to confirm she was not seeing things. And it’s not like I’m an astronomer or anything. By far! But I did see the space station several months ago and it was moving so it couldn’t be that. So on to Google to search! And sure enough found out it was Venus! Aah, the things we would never figure out without Google or an astronomer!

It was an amazing sight! It was so bright. After I realized it was Venus I grabbed my daughter and went outside to see it since she’s been reading and listening to books on CD about the solar system. She absolutely loves Mrs. Frizzle and The Magic School Bus! I’m only more excited about these things because I want to show her what she has only read or heard about.

How much is out there and we merely caught a glimpse last night of what our great Creator God has created. There’s a verse in the Bible in Genesis 1:1 that says “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” God created something out of nothing. Who can do that? But God did. And it’s interesting that the verse says God created the heavens and the earth. It doesn’t say God created the universe or the planets or Mars or Venus. But, God created the earth. How specific is that? And how important is the earth?

The Recipe for a Normal Christian Life

View details

Have you ever wondered as a Christian what it is to have a normal Christian life? Some may think it is always to be victorious but many of us have experienced that if that is a normal Christian life then I might as well give up because I can never live up to that. Well, I have a recipe for you! And, it’s VERY healthy for you! Especially to have a healthy Christian life! It’s from a book I’ve been reading called The Normal Christian Life by Watchman Nee. Now isn’t that a fitting title?

To have a normal Christian life we need several things. First, we have to know the blood of Christ and it’s value in the eyes of God to be forgiven of our sins. Second, we need to know the cross of Christ so we can be delivered from our nature of sin and realize we have been transferred into Christ. Then we need to realize the conditions of the normal Christian life which are four fold: knowing, reckoning, presenting ourselves to God, and walking in the spirit. Now why are these steps necessary? We must see the end God has in view and know God’s eternal purpose. This is the motive and goal of our walk with Him and our being filled with the Holy Spirit supplies us the power to bring us to that goal. Yet, we are not those living a normal Christian life alone. We are members in the Body of Christ and only the Body of Christ can fulfill God’s eternal purpose. And the more we walk this normal Christian life the more we waste ourselves upon Him. To us it is not a waste but normal. And the Christian life becomes as normal as our daily routine of waking up, brushing our teeth, eating, working, going to school, and going to bed. We just live it without struggling and we are victorious not because we did it but because we allowed the One who is in us to be the one living. Try out the recipe!

Normal Christian Life Recipe

International Space Station

Tonight the International Space Station could be seen where I live with the naked eye since it was reflecting the sunlight. It’s the first time I saw it since I didn’t even know before this week that we could even see it. It’s pretty amazing!

I had a friend take the pictures for me since I’m such an amateur and knew I probably wouldn’t catch anything. Glad I did because I didn’t get any pictures but he did! Thank you A.M.!

Just thinking that man can put something like that in space and that there are 6 astronauts living up there is just crazy! The space station itself testifies of an ingenious creator or actually creators. It shows how several people thought it up and many more carried it out. I’m not a scientist so I can’t even imagine all the details it took to create, plan, build and get a hunk of metal up into space! What man can come up with and do also proves that we did not just evolve from some kind of animal. We were created by Someone who is much more knowledgeable. Actually He is all knowing! And this one, God, created this vast universe and it will take eternity to discover what God has made. And though we may search up there for higher life I have come to realize that the higher life, that is, God Himself, just wants to come to us and doesn’t need us to go looking for Him. He came to us as the man named Jesus Christ, died on the cross for our sins and became the life-giving Spirit (1 Corinthians 15:45b) to enter into us! Wow! The God who made this awesome universe desires to come into us finite beings! Wonderful! The great universe God created does not satisfy Him but His entering into man makes Him so happy! Are you genuinely happy? Or is something missing? Are you trying to search for something out there in the universe that will make your life full of meaning? Try saying “O Lord Jesus, if You are real come INTO me!” And check out this video!

Brownie Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Muffin

Yes, I’m on a baking and blogging spree. However, I should be experimenting with healthier recipes! First time I’ve made brownies from scratch! I’m not that much of a brownie consumer so usually made it from a box if I  needed to but this time decided to and now I have my go to recipe unless I encounter another.

I think I got this idea from Lovin’ From The Oven like usual but can’t locate it! So you just make the batter pour a little in each, place a peanut butter cup in the middle and pour some more batter on top. Stick ’em in the oven and 20 so minutes later you have your delicious creation.

I got my brownie recipe from All Recipes.

Homemade Brownies

  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour or white whole wheat
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder

I like the three layer effect like that of the Oreo cookies.

It reminds me of how a person is made. We are made in three parts. Have you ever realized that? We are made with a body, soul and spirit and these three are three separate parts as seen in 1 Thessalonians 5:23: “your spirit and soul and body.” Our body contacts the things of the physical realm. Our soul, composed of our mind, emotion and will, contacts the things in the psychological realm. This is where we think, love, hate, and choose. Our spirit contacts the things of the spiritual realm.

So if I try to use my physical body, my hands, eyes or ears to contact God I will never contact Him because He is not in that realm. I can contact my husband and daughter but not God. If I try to think about God really hard or use my mind to study Him or use my emotions to conjure up some kind of feeling for God that doesn’t work either. The only way I can contact God is with the spirit He has created me (Zechariah 12:1, Thus declares Jehovah, who stretches forth the heavens and lays the foundations of the earth and forms the spirit of man within him) with and is very close to the Spirit. So God is REAL to me because I have discovered the organ to use to contact Him. I cannot use my ears to see or my nose to eat and in the same way I cannot use my body or mind to touch God. I can touch God by my spirit! Wow!!! Double wow!!!!

Butterfly Flier Craft

We have children over almost every Sunday for singing, stories, snack and craft. We had a great time singing and the younger ones are the ones who sing the loudest! We have fun with hand motions and seeing who can really sing loud. Today we talked about love, a basic characteristic we would like all our children to have as proper human beings. We talked specifically about the love mentioned in 1 Corinthians 13:4 and 8. “Love suffers long. Love is kind; it is not jealous. Love does not brag and is not puffed up.” What a love!

For craft we made butterfly fliers. The kids had a blast but we had 6 younger than 6 so we had to do a lot of cutting! The older ones can handle everything themselves.

Got the idea and instructions from DLTK’s Crafts for Kids.

After everything was glued together we stapled the roll to the butterfly to fully secure it.

It’s a lot of fun to play with! Just be careful of yarn burns on your fingers!

Yarn Bottles

Needed a fun, simple craft for the children for Sunday and we were talking about how God is kind so made these “friends” out of plastic water bottles and yarn. Got the idea from Spoonful.

I was just struck in preparing for the lesson that many people think God is out to get us and that He is mean but when you read through the Bible you see how much He was kind to man and so compassionate. “Give thanks to Jehovah, for He is good, / For His lovingkindness is forever” (1
Chronicles 16:34). “But love your enemies, and do good and lend, expecting nothing in return… and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the unthankful and evil” (Luke 6:35). Within most of mankind is a desire to do good because we were created in God’s image and after His likeness (Genesis 1:26) but due to the fall of man because of sin in Genesis we hate and are unkind. He is so kind that He causes rain to fall on the just and unjust. What kind of God is that? If I were God I surely would not give to those who are unjust, but it shows what kind of God He is. He loves all man whether good or evil because His desire is to save us all, good or evil, from the sin that was injected into us and haunts us to wash us of that which we cannot rid of ourselves so that He can then put Himself as life into us. “But when the kindness and the love to man of our Savior God appeared” (Titus 3:4).

I just saw afresh in the book of Jonah how much God wanted to rescue the Ninevites. Jonah was told to go preach to them because they were wicked. God could have just destroyed them but instead chose to send Jonah to save them! I don’t think we can even comprehend how wicked they were and yet God desired that they repent not perish. Are we like Jonah who care for ourselves or like God who is kind and desires to save? Only the life of God in us growing and increasing can cause us to be ones who desire men to be saved and not to perish.
