The Recipe for a Normal Christian Life

View details

Have you ever wondered as a Christian what it is to have a normal Christian life? Some may think it is always to be victorious but many of us have experienced that if that is a normal Christian life then I might as well give up because I can never live up to that. Well, I have a recipe for you! And, it’s VERY healthy for you! Especially to have a healthy Christian life! It’s from a book I’ve been reading called The Normal Christian Life by Watchman Nee. Now isn’t that a fitting title?

To have a normal Christian life we need several things. First, we have to know the blood of Christ and it’s value in the eyes of God to be forgiven of our sins. Second, we need to know the cross of Christ so we can be delivered from our nature of sin and realize we have been transferred into Christ. Then we need to realize the conditions of the normal Christian life which are four fold: knowing, reckoning, presenting ourselves to God, and walking in the spirit. Now why are these steps necessary? We must see the end God has in view and know God’s eternal purpose. This is the motive and goal of our walk with Him and our being filled with the Holy Spirit supplies us the power to bring us to that goal. Yet, we are not those living a normal Christian life alone. We are members in the Body of Christ and only the Body of Christ can fulfill God’s eternal purpose. And the more we walk this normal Christian life the more we waste ourselves upon Him. To us it is not a waste but normal. And the Christian life becomes as normal as our daily routine of waking up, brushing our teeth, eating, working, going to school, and going to bed. We just live it without struggling and we are victorious not because we did it but because we allowed the One who is in us to be the one living. Try out the recipe!

Healthy OBB Nut Muffins

Huh? Didn’t know that acronym? Healthy Oatmeal Blueberry Blackberry Muffins! A mouthful though don’t you think?

A little too wheaty for me so I think I’ll put half the whole wheat flour and replace the other half with some almond meal or oat flour the next time I make these. Oh, and if your blackberries are not sweet you’ll get a nice tart, tangy surprise when you take a bite. A second oh, these are not sweet so if you like to bite into a sweet muffin replace honey with brown sugar or increase the honey to 3/4 cup. Enjoy!

I got the recipe from Two Peas & Their Pod and adjusted just a little.

  • 1 1/4 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/4 cups oats
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup nonfat yogurt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup blueberries and/or blackberries
  • 3/4 cup chopped nuts
  • 3 tbsp flaxseed

International Space Station

Tonight the International Space Station could be seen where I live with the naked eye since it was reflecting the sunlight. It’s the first time I saw it since I didn’t even know before this week that we could even see it. It’s pretty amazing!

I had a friend take the pictures for me since I’m such an amateur and knew I probably wouldn’t catch anything. Glad I did because I didn’t get any pictures but he did! Thank you A.M.!

Just thinking that man can put something like that in space and that there are 6 astronauts living up there is just crazy! The space station itself testifies of an ingenious creator or actually creators. It shows how several people thought it up and many more carried it out. I’m not a scientist so I can’t even imagine all the details it took to create, plan, build and get a hunk of metal up into space! What man can come up with and do also proves that we did not just evolve from some kind of animal. We were created by Someone who is much more knowledgeable. Actually He is all knowing! And this one, God, created this vast universe and it will take eternity to discover what God has made. And though we may search up there for higher life I have come to realize that the higher life, that is, God Himself, just wants to come to us and doesn’t need us to go looking for Him. He came to us as the man named Jesus Christ, died on the cross for our sins and became the life-giving Spirit (1 Corinthians 15:45b) to enter into us! Wow! The God who made this awesome universe desires to come into us finite beings! Wonderful! The great universe God created does not satisfy Him but His entering into man makes Him so happy! Are you genuinely happy? Or is something missing? Are you trying to search for something out there in the universe that will make your life full of meaning? Try saying “O Lord Jesus, if You are real come INTO me!”¬†And check out this video!

Anepalco’s Cafe

Had a little lunch date with my hubby this afternoon and tried out Anepalco’s Cafe in Orange. It’s a Mexican-French fusion place. Nice and tasty food at a great price. I think he had the Poblano Chicken Sandwich. I had the Chipotle Creamy Chicken Crepe. Will definitely try some other items on their menu the next time we visit. Give it a try the next time you’re in Orange!

Here’s their website Anepalco’s Cafe.

Birch Aquarium

We visited the Birch Aquarium at Scripps in San Diego today and it was a great outing for my almost 4 year old.

Great hands on things for kids to do and learn. My daughter played with this for over 30 minutes making and changing paths for boats to float down.

Great view of La Jolla shores

And I was reminded looking at all the marine life this verse in Romans 1:19: “For the invisible things of Him, both His eternal power and divine characteristics, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being perceived by the things made, so that they would be without excuse.”

San Diego Air and Space Museum

image

We happen to be in the San Diego area since my husband had some work here so I was flipping through the hotel binder looking for something my daughter and I could do indoors. Recommended was the Air and Space Museum. Perfect, I thought! It’s indoors and my daughter likes planes and rockets or at least has some interest. And, another bonus, Macy’s has a coupon for half off admission for several museums in the area. How can I not jump on a deal? Well, I’m glad I did because I wouldn’t pay regular price ($18 adult, $7 child) to go again unless you really want to know and see history! And Ripley’s Believe It Or Not was on exhibit there too for just a little more for admission. You always see some interesting things there!

How long did it take to make these?

Those are all made from match sticks!

It’s a car boat and actually floats!!!

image

This is made out of toilet paper! Now that’s a cheap wedding dress! Actually probably more expensive because so difficult to make without tearing it!

And now on to the main part of the museum…

Healthy Oatmeal Fruit and Nut Muffins

This is a nice healthy alternative for a breakfast on the run that also gives you protein and a little surprise inside if you like cream cheese. I used pumpkin spice cream cheese since that’s what I had and what I like! These are good to freeze and pull them out when you need them too!

I adapted the recipe from All Recipes.

1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup white whole wheat flour
1 1/4 cup oatmeal
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup honey
1 cup plain nonfat yogurt, I used Greek
3 eggs (1 whole, 2 egg whites)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup shredded coconut
3/4 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup dried fruit (raisins, cherries, apricots, prunes) use what you have on hand
1/4 cup flaxseed, optional
1/4 cup softened cream cheese, optional for filling

My batch yielded 2 dozen. Enjoy!
